Local Fruits and Market Places
Lose yourself (and then find yourself again) wandering amongst the bright colors of the exotic fruits and vegetables of Medellin’s best markets. Our bilingual concierge, after picking you up in a luxury, air-conditioned van, will expertly guide you around the market and give you a taste of daily life in our wonderful city, and you can get to know up-close-and-personal some strange fruit and veg that you’ve possibly never even seen before.
Try unlimited samples as a courtesy of us at Hi Medellin as you stroll through this traditional marketplace where trading goes on for hours on end on a daily basis. Who fancies an avocado the size of their head? Or fresh, juicy mangoes, dragon fruit, citric lulo, or giant passion fruit? Who will dare to try the borojó, a mysterious fruit rumoured to be an aphrodisiac? It all depends what’s in season, of course, as all produce sold in these markets is locally sourced and super fresh.
We will start off at a smaller food market, dubbed as the “Farmer’s Market of Medellin”, before carrying on to the ever-so-charming flower market, which is bursting with the bright colours and exotic flowers that give Medellin its nickname the “eternal Spring”. Take in the perfumed aroma of flowers that have been carefully arranged by proud sellers, and marvel at sunflowers that tower over your head. We will then make a stop at Plaza Mayorista, Colombia’s second biggest market, to check out some more incredible food, just in case you hadn’t got enough!
Don’t forget to bring Colombian pesos with you to pay for the delights you’re surely going to be tempted into buying, and make sure it’s small change too, so you can do some haggling Colombian-style.
