In the center of the department of Santander, travelers find this experiences that complement each other.  On the one hand there is calm and silence, which are the essence of Barichara, a municipality with a warm and dry climate with stone streets that belongs to the Peoples Heritage of Colombia.  On the other hand, there is the adrenaline offered by adventure activities such as paragliding and rafting in neighboring San Gil.

The department of Santander, a small town where everything looks like time has stopped .  This is Barichara, a place of beautiful stone streets, street lanterns and white houses with clay tiles that preserve the colonial air for centuries.

Visiting Barichara is a date with the tranquility and peace of times that has be gone for a long time .  Walking aimlessly through the streets, you will clearly hear your steps and you can surrender to your thoughts.

And Barichara is not a town adorned with museums and shops.  Actually, it is a place that has managed to maintain the authentic atmosphere, carefully preserving the charm of those houses that are repeated one after another in some streets that rise and fall to the beat of the geography of the area.

You can, however, visit beautiful buildings such as the Temple of the Immaculate Conception and San Lorenzo Mártir, which is the largest church in Barichara.  It was built in the 18th century and the magnificent dome rises majestically over the other buildings of the town.

You can also find places that sell local handicrafts and restaurants where you can try typical Santander dishes, such as the famous culona ants and the delicious sabajón, a sweet and creamy liquor-based drink.

Finally, you can see the sunset from one of the Barichara viewpoints to observe the town from above and to be touched by the sunset between the mountains.  Do not forget your camera, it is a sublime moment.
